This is the largest learning event on the planet and last year reached 130 million students and many Lee County students were a part of it. Students had a blast participating! This year, the worldwide goal is 200 million students the week of December 7 - 13. How awesome to be part of a global event!

Last year after the Hour of Code was over, some teachers asked, "Why did we do this? Why was it important?" Great question! Here are several things you might not have though of:
- Coding applies to many standards: persevering in problem solving, applying angle measurements, identifying cause-and-effect relationships, using glossaries and legends, and many more!
- Exposure to computer science (no matter how brief) dramatically increases student interest in this rapidly growing career field. When kids start, they carry on with their learning outside of school.
- By the year 2020, there will be over 1.4 million computing jobs available in the U.S. but at the current rate of growth of computer science graduates, there will be only 400,000 people to fill those positions. That is a 1 MILLION person shortage!
- When surveyed, 9 out of 10 parents in the U.S. said they want their children to learn computer science.
- It's FUN!!!
